How do we strengthen ingredient and manufacturing capacity for plant-based meat in order to meet growing demand? Priera Panescu, PhD, senior scientist with The Good Food Institute, will do a deep dive into GFI’s new report exploring the future of this sector at our Plant-Based Foods & Proteins Summit Americas.
GFI estimates plant-based alternatives will represent six per cent of total meat consumption by 2030 — which means manufacturers will need to produce 25 million metric tons of the products per year to meet demand. The in-depth report says it conservatively projects that to get there, the world will need at least 800 extrusion factories, each of which is able to produce at least 30,000 metric tons of extruded protein product per year, representing a global capital cost of $27 billion.
