As Director of Policy at the FSA, Rebecca leads teams responsible for providing risk management advice on a broad range of food safety issues, from the regulation of novel foods such as CBD to measures to reduce the incidence of foodborne diseases. Rebecca leads the FSA’s programme of work to improve the quality of life for people with a food hypersensitivity, including the FSA’s work to improve the quality of information about allergens for consumers. Rebecca also leads a programme of regulatory reform, including introducing new regulations for the authorisation of products produced by Precision Breeding, and the FSA’s to reform the Regulated Products Service so that authorisations can be made more efficiently, for the benefit of both consumers and food businesses. Earlier in her career, Rebecca worked as a Senior Civil Servant in the Treasury and in the Department for Work and Pensions, and outside the civil service in Director of Strategy roles at Peabody, one of the UK’s largest housing associations, and at City, University of London. She has also held a number of trustee roles in the charity sector. Rebecca is Deputy Carers Champion for the Civil Service as a whole and has a strong personal commitment to making the civil service a diverse and inclusive place to work where everyone can make the most of their talents.
