Michiel Meeuse is a chemical engineer with a MSc and PhD from Delft University. He has over 20 years of experience in R&D for the Food Industry. Since 2023 he is new business manager protein at the Royal Agrifirm Group.

The rise of plant based products is also creating opportunities for farmers all over the world. At this moment almost all the protein in the plant based products that are produced and consumed in The Netherlands is coming from abroad. Local cultivating of protein rich crops offers some interesting opportunities. Unique local propositions can be generated and the local farmers can also become an integral part of the protein transition. Since this is a new market there are many challenges to overcome for successful cultivation of protein rich crops locally. In this presentation we discuss this topic and we will present a case study on a local value chain for plant based products.
